Greek education is very simple but strict. Most students attend school from the age of six to fifteen. They begin studying the English language by fourth grade and continue to study it through high school. Most of the people in this country after high school seek a degree from a University. The reason for this is because tuition and books are free but the student has to meet strict entrance requirements.
Most of the Greek Universities are public; they do not recognize private colleges and universities. However, many of these are still found in Greece but there not credited by the Greek education system. In order to get into the Greek credited schools the student has to have good scores on their state-administered exams, high GPA’s in high school, and a certain choice of major. About 15% of the Greek population holds a degree from a college or university and currently about 295,000 students are registered at the Greek universities or colleges.
Based on this information they put the Greek education system into three groups primary, secondary, and tertiary education. The primary level is preschool to about Fourth grade. The secondary level is roughly fourth grade to about twelfth grade. Then the last group the tertiary is from there on. From high school until the time one is done with their higher education. The Greek education system is very strong and hard, this is a system that develops very smart and well-rounded kids.
